Connect Stripe Express debit auth for faster payouts
5 min read
Debit auth lets us reverse funds instantly if a refund happens. That guarantee is what we use to shorten your hold window from 14 days to 3 days. The setup is one Stripe screen.
What "debit auth" actually means
When you connect a debit card via Stripe's 'debit_authorization' flow, you authorise Stripe to debit that card on our behalf if there's ever a negative balance — for example, when a buyer refunds an order that already paid out to you.
Without debit auth, we keep funds in hold for 14 days to absorb late refunds out of your balance. With debit auth, we can claw back later, so the hold shortens to 3 days.
How to enable it
1. Go to /dashboard → Payouts → Stripe Connect.
2. Click 'Enable faster payouts'. Stripe opens a one-page form.
3. Enter a debit card. Credit cards and prepaid cards won't work — Stripe needs a real debit card so the reversal route is guaranteed.
4. Submit. Stripe processes a $0 authorisation to verify the card. Once verified, your account flips to faster-payout mode.
Important constraints
Debit auth is only available in countries where Stripe's debit network supports it (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia today).
If your debit card is later declined, your account auto-downgrades back to 14-day hold. We'll email you when this happens so you can update.
Debit auth is independent of your main payout destination. You can keep payouts going to a bank account; the debit card is only used for reversals.
